Kashmir: Youth killed, PDP leader's house set ablaze

Srinagar, Sept 3: A youth was killed and the house of a PDP block president was set ablaze in south Kashmir on Saturday, reports and officials said.
A youth was declared dead on arrival at District Hospital Anantnag, the doctors said. They said that Basit Ahmad Ahangar, son of Ghulam Muhammad Ahangar, resident of Vessu, was injured during clashes with forces in Vessu village of Qazigund in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
Meanwhile, a police handout said 12 incident of stone pelting were reported from across the Valley.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, curfew was lifted from Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Baramulla and most parts of Srinagar today.
"However, curfew remained in force in the areas falling under the Police Stations of Maisuma, Batamaloo, Khanyar, Safakadal, Nowhatta, Rainawari and M R Gunj," the handout said.
It said that 12 incidents of stone-pelting were reported from Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, Sopore and Kupwara today. "At these places, miscreants assembled on the roads and attempted to disturb the normal traffic and movement of people by pelting stones on vehicles and on police and security force deployments," the statement said.
"Barring these incidents of stray stone-pelting, the overall situation remained under control till filing of this report," the statement said.
Meanwhile, angry mob that attacked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's cavalcade during her visit to a family of slain youth in Kund village of Kulgam district later set ablaze PDP Block President's residence, reports said. This is the second incident in this week when protesters have attacked the house of ruling PDP office bearer. Earlier an angry mob had set ablaze the residence of PDP senior leader and Raja Saba Member Nazir Ahmad Laway at Kulgam and snatched four rifles from the police personnel guarding his residence.
Reports said that angry mob that engaged security forces with ding dong clashes through the day, later this evening set ablaze PDP Block President Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh's residential house in Waripora Kund.
Sheikh's brother-in-Law confirmed to Early Times the unfortunate incident and said that all the family members including his 6 years old daughter were safe. "The moment angry mob entered into the premises of his residential house, all the family members including his mother, my sister and all the four children left the home and rushed for safety.
All of them are safe we have contacted them but certainly had narrow escape," he said.
He said that h is only fault was that he accompanied the Chief Minister during her visit to the family of a slain youth Mushtaq Ahmad, killed during the clashes in the village, after the death of Hizb Militant Burhan Wani.
Reports said that this morning Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti paid a surprise visit at the residence of the slain youth and spent considerable time with his mother, however on his return, mob hurled a few stones at her cavalcade. Attack on CM's cavalcade triggered clashes between security forces and youth in the village, which were going on when this report was being filed.
