Term separatists as real representatives; discredit themselves | Opposition undermining democracy | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 3: Kashmir's mainstream parties are out in the open, discrediting none but themselves by declaring separatists as the 'real stake holders' of the Kashmiri people, putting a question mark upon democratic principles of fair play and justice. National Conference, Congress, CPI (M), PDF and several others have been rhetorically terming separatists as the major stakeholders and emphasizing upon holding talks with them. Such statements have put a question mark over the entire democratic and electoral process in which the people here risked their lives to exercise their franchise. Amid unrest and current wave of violence being fuelled by the separatists in Kashmir, the opposition mainstream parties are busy terming them 'peoples' representatives'. NC's general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar in a statement said: "" "There will be significance of delegation's visit to Valley only after they meet the victim families and the separatist leaders." He said that if Government of India (GoI) is serious over resolving the Kashmir issue, then they should initiate dialogue with separatist leaders. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief, G H Mir too has jumped into the chorus, saying that they have always demanded that the government should hold dialogue with all the stakeholders including separatists. "To resolve the issue, Congress has already demanded that the separatist leaders should be taken on board. If GoI in sincere in resolving the issue then they should take all the stakeholders of Kashmir on board," he said. PDF president and MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen said: "Government should invite the separatist leadership so that the visit of the delegation won't be a futile exercise. A dialogue without separatists won't yield any result." CPI (M) state secretary, M Y Tarigami said the party's General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury has already suggested that "separatist leaders must also be invited to meet the delegation." Tarigami said he believes that state government must pick up the threads and take this initiative in this direction. "Besides that, it will be advisable to release all the separatist leaders who are under detention." What has raised several eye brows all across is how the mainstream camp while striving to score the political points and fill the newspaper spaces are putting under the dock their own credibility and devaluing the courage that the people exhibited by voting during the polls. Furthermore, such statements in which separatists are hailed have made the position of the latter stronger. Same could prick the claims of separatists losing ground in Kashmir. As they say a week is enough in politics, the opposition parties have only proved the maxim correct. |
