Early Times Report

Anantnag, Sept 3: An official of Rural Development Department has been booked for fraud, who allegedly has withdrawn a huge amount from the official account of District Panchayat Officer Anantnag.
Official sources identified the official as Abdul Rashid alias Rashid Fighter. Rashid is working as a clerk in the department of Rural Department and is posted in the office of District Panchayat Officer Anantnag.
They said that accused official has forged the signatures of District Panchayat Officer Anantnag and withdrawn Rs 39.48 lakh from his official account.
Fraud surfaced during a preliminary investigation, initiated by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Syed Aabid Rashid in last month.
"Deputy Commissioner Anantnag was tipped off about it and on his directions an enquiry was initiated which revealed that the official has withdrawn such a huge amount," a senior officer pleading anonymity, told Early Times.
He said that the accused with the help of some private persons have withdrawn the amount in the months of May and June. "Transferring amount to accounts of some private persons seems to be modus operandi of the accused," he added. Assistant Commissioner Development Anantnag, Gulzar Ahmad confirmed the development and said that accused has been suspended and disciplinary action has been initiated against him.
An amount of rupees 35 lakhs, he said, has been recovered from the accused during last two weeks.
An FIR No. 217/2016 U/S 420, 467, 468 has also been registered against the accused RDD official and investigation is going on, a senior officer confirmed.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kashmir valley is witnessing mayhem these days and many blue-eyed officials are leaving no stone unturned to loot the state resources, property and state exchequer.
Not only Kashmir is losing forest cover, but illegal fishing in famous Lidder river is going unabated.
