Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 13: The Centre has directed the state government to open schools in the Kashmir valley at the earliest. The state government has been asked to get its acts together and take whatever steps are needed for it and show more sternness in this act.
Sources said it's after this direction that the education minister had called on the Governor to discuss the issue, which was the second meeting the Governor had with the minister.
The statement issued on behalf of the Governor is reflective of the concerns of the Central government, which is in fact contemplating the de-radicalisation programme for the Kashmiri youth.
According to the sources, the top official of the central government had told the state government that prolonged closure of the schools will have two pronged problem for the children: will affect their career and their psyche.
"An affected career can have adverse effect on the children and there is a concern that such students who are already showing signs of depression are a potential catch for the agents of separatists who are scouts for target to radicalize them," said the official.
The sources said that in successive meeting chaired by the home minister, this concern was flagged off consistently and understanding the gravity of the situation, the home ministry had asked the state government to ensure opening of schools.
" The government is also planning to curtail the syllabus for students and also may increase intake for the students under PM Scholarship scheme but first priority should be to open the schools and get the exams conducted on time," said the official.
