Early Times Report

Sunderbani, Sept 14: Already infamous about its alleged involvement in contentious deals, Sunderbani Municipal Corporation has once again raked up a controversy by turning a blind eye towards the mushroom growth of the kiosks and rehris on the Bus Stand -Hospital road. As per the present status of the 300 meter road, which earlier used to be a wide 12-14 feet wide, it has now shrunk to just 5 ft giving taxing time to the commuters , particularly to the patients moving in the ambulances towards hospital.
The expansions of kisosks and rehris on the footpath has been nurtured by the Municipal Corporation, Sunderbani, presently being headed by the Executing Officer.
Various local deputations that have met the EO have been allegedly ignored by the said official.
A city president Manoj Kumar while talking to Early Times said that he has many times reminded the EO to clear off the road of the illegal rehriwalas and kiosk owners , but he never yielded to their pleas.
" He is equivalent shareholder in the booty that is generated as commission through the rehriwalas and kiosk owners and thus is staying ignorant to the public cry," said Manoj Kumar .
It is also relevant to mention here that a particular shop on whose first floor the office of the EO is situated has been hired by a BJP leader who owns significant influence in the area.
" He is a BJP leader and entire Sunderbani owns a notorious name for being the forte of BJP goons who rule with jungle law in the tehsil," said one of the daily commuter of the road who suffers the inconvenience.
The shop which had been given on rent by the Municipal Committee to the BJP leader now is split into four parts and all the shops are doing brisk businesses and earning fortunes for themselves as well as the EO, alleged the residents of the area.
"The EO gets his due share from the rehriwalas and the kiosk owners," alleged another resident of the area
When contacted, the EO denied the allegations saying that he is being falsely implicated.
"I do not take a single penny from anybody, It is a false allegation on me," he said. But when asked as to why he does not takes action against the defaulters on the roads who have illegally encroached the main road , he had no answer.
