| Army to send 2 brigades to restive Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sep 14: Months after three battalions of Armed Forces were shifted to the violence-hit Kashmir Valley, two more brigades will soon be rushed and deployed across the Valley.''Although the task of the Army is not yet defined but there are reports that in coming days, most probably in this month only, two more brigades ofArmy comprising nearly 10,000 troops will be rushed to the Valley,'' reliable sources here told.
Sources said that brigade of troops will be shifted from hinterlands of Jammu region where the militancy has subdued, adding, ''so far the locations and areas of deployment of these troops is not yet ascertained but it is reliable learnt that they will be given special assignments across the Kashmir Valley.'' ''No question arises of lowering troops from along the Line of Control at any cost in Jammu region,'' sources said adding that in view of recent Poonch Attack in Allapeer locality in which four militants were gunned down and a cop attained martyrdom, at least seven people including two soldiers, two CRPF men and a civilian sustained injuries, it is clear that footprints of troops cannot be reduced from the Pir Panjal.''
There are intelligence inputs that in the aftermath of Hizb Commander Burhan Wani's death, around 100 youth are missing from the Kashmir Valley,'' sources said and apprehending that the missing boys might have allegedly joined various militant outfits to revive terrorism in the Valley and across the state.''Pakistan is taking advantage of prevailing Kashmir situation and already radacalised young minds can be misused at this juncture and they can easily be misled by the neighbourer besides by those operating at their behest on this side of the border to accomplish mission,'' sources said.
They further maintained that troops to be shifted to the disturbed Kashmir Valley where the law and order is out of control since July 8 after Burhan Wani's elimination, the number to be lowered from the Jammu region only from the locations, which are safe and not militancy prone.''No doubt that terrorists have identified routes to infiltrate but still they do not keep the locations fixed as their aim is to reach the destination by all means and in such a situation, the troops cannot be reduced along the border but only be shifted from areas declared militancy free zones to focus on ''disturbed'' Kashmir Valley,'' sources maintained.
Army troops are already geared up and maintaining all vigil along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and have successfully foiled infiltration bids in the recent days especially in the South of Kashmir but infiltration attempts can also be made from across the border in Pir Panjal belt.''Either via Nepal route, Pir Panjal or South Kashmir, infiltrators can make all bids to reach Jammu and Kashmir aiming to disturb peace and harmony,'' they added.
''The role of troops to be shifted to the Valley is not assigned so far but if Army has to take care of law and order problem then there is required a magistrate in Army's every column,'' he added.In view of the prevailing Kashmir unrest, over 3000 Army troops have already been shifted to the Valley from here in the month of July.''Three battalions comprising over 3000 Army troops of Infantry Battalion were rushed from Nagrota based White Knight Corps (16 Corps) to Srinagar,'' sources said.Kashmir is on boil since January 8after Burhan's death in a fierce gun battle and so far more than 75 people have died and over 5000 including security personnel got injured in violent. |
