Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 14: Principal sessions judge, Kathua, Vinod Chatterji Koul today rejected the bail application of an alleged heroin smuggler. Petitioner Jiwan Kumar alias Jiwa, son of Nek Raj, hails from Chak Drab Khan, Kathua. On August 23, 2016, a police patrol vehicle stopped near four youth at Chak Drab Khan at about 6.45 pm. They identified themselves as Jiwa, Vikas Bandotra, Rahul Sharma and Rohit Sharma. One of them was sitting on motorcycle No JK08B/5533. During their frisking, cops recovered 7.3 gms of heroin from Jiwa, 3 gms from Vikas, 3.2 gms from Rohit and 1.1 gms from Rahul. The cops arrested all of them, besides seizing the contraband and the motorcycle. They were booked under section 8/21/22 of NDPS Act. The judge, after hearing the two sides, observed that if such people were released on bail soon after their arrest, it would encourage them in dealing with the supply of narcotics. "The supply of narcotics by such people is required to be discouraged. This can be achieved only if they are dealt with strictly in accordance with law," he said. With these observations, the court rejected the bail application. |
