Narayana Hospital launches screening bus to spread awareness of breast cancer in J&K

Jammu Sept 14: With an aim to reach out people in the remote belts of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital today launched a Mobile Breast Cancer Screening bus service, which will screen people for breast cancer and educate them on early detection.The bus is equipped with Mammography unit. Chief Executive Officer Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, flagged-off the mobile unit with support from Infosys Foundation. ''For educating public, a TV will be installed outside the bus playing breast cancer awareness videos speaking at the launch of the Mobile Mammography Unit,'' Mr Sahu told reporters after launching the service.He further said, ''the mobile mammography unit is a giant step towards reaching out to the masses in order to create awareness about breast cancer and take it to remote locations where facilities to diagnose and treat cancer is not there''.
''This initiative by the hospital team will certainly give access to timely diagnosis and treatment to more number of patients,'' he asserted.He further said, "We want to encourage more number of people to come forward and get themselves screened as this is about health and nothing about social stigma". The Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit will be deployed at the various cancer screening camps in and around Jammu and Kashmir.Meanwhile Dr Gitanjali Gupta, Radiologist at the Hospital said, "Breast cancer is on the rise and we need to take measures to ensure early diagnosis''. According to a recent report, approximately 1.5 lakh patients are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in India, she said and added, ''the mobile mammography unit is an excellent initiative by Narayana Health in reaching out to a larger population and taking cancer care to those areas where cancer specialists are not available.'' Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has advanced Cancer therapeutic unit, which is equipped with the state's first linear accelerator and advanced technology for Radiation oncology with MRI, CT, Mammography and high resolution scanner.
