Kin of deceased accuse police of shielding accused in-laws of girl

Jammu, Sept 19: Relative and family member of the deceased namely Madhu Sharma who allegedly was burnt alive by her husband, father and mother in law at village Nagrota (Utterbani) today alleged that the police shielding the accused and is bent to make deceased death as 'suicide'.
Addressing a press conference here today, the aggrieved family told reporters that the concerned police says that deceased committed suicide rather than being killed by her in laws. Demanding a stern action and proper investigation at the easiest to get justice for deceased, the family members sought members of deceased's in laws family to be booked under relevant section for killing their daughter.
Narrating their woeful story, the family members told reporters that Madhu Sharma married to Rakesh Sharma on 03 March 2014 at Mansar (Distt Samba), died mysteriously of burns injuries at her in laws house in Nagrota (Utterbani) on Sept 4.
"Out of the wedlock a girl child was born on 16 July 2015 and with the birth of the girl child the behavior/attitude of her husband and her mother & father in law got changed," alleged parents of deceased.
"The husband and other members of her in laws started harassing and even beating to the Madhu, they said while recalling that even at times compromise between the two sides through the intervention of panchayat, where the accused agreed not to beat and harass Madhu.
"But on the fateful day on 04 September around 3:00 pm in the afternoon she was allegedly burnt alive and succumbed on same day at Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu, they lamented.
Alleging police having hands in glove with accused family, the family members of deceased said that police only arrested the husband, father & mother in law of the deceased when they blocked the national highway near Vijaypur ( Distt Samba ).
Giving more details, the elder sister of the deceased, Sarita Devi said, "On receiving the news about her younger sister burning she alongwith her husband reached GMC&H Jammu. "At that time the deceased was conscious and was crying in deep pain due to burn injuries and was immediately admitted in the Emergency Ward. Alleging in-laws of deceased for committing crime, Sarita Devi said, "I spoke to my severely injured sister for a while who asked for water and stated that she was burnt by her husband and his family members (father & mother in law). She also said it happened only because she gane birth to a girl, sister of deceased told reporters.
Meantime brother of the deceased Ajay Sharma also corroborated the statement of his sister that his younger sister used to be tortured by her husband and in laws for bringing less dowry and for giving birth to a girl child. He also recalled that his deceased sister used to believe that they ( her in-laws) might change and accept her.
The family members alleged despite full assurance of proper and fair investigation the police have failed to book the accused under relevant sections and it seems both the accused and police are having hand in gloves.
