Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 19: The army has decided to repatriate the land belonging to various agencies that had been under its control for years. The decision to this effect was taken during the Governor's rule though it was delayed owing to some political considerations.
According to sources, the army has decided to hand over the land under its control at Tatto ground, land of Jammu university, the land adjoining Jammu airport and also land in kargil that has come under the expansion of the airport there.
Decision to this affect was conveyed to the Chief Minister recently and the formal announcement will be made shortly. The decisions were taken during the Govenor's rule. The Governor had then personally visited the Tatto ground along with the GoC-in-C northern command and the announcement was to be made very shortly then , but it was delayed for some political considerations.
"The decision was deliberately delayed then so that the creit and political mileage of the repatriation of land under Army's control could be taken by the PDP-BJP government ," said the source. The decision was to be made after Mehbooba Mufti assumed office, but with Assembly session and then after the present turmoil this got further delayed. "A decision was taken that with situation slowly returning to normal and likely to come down to routine were shortly a formal announcement will be made. It will send a message that the Modi government is sensitive to the aspirations and the concerns of the people of the state," said the official.
Even though the major beneficiary will be the Jammu where there is much more pressing need but there is narrative in Kashmir where everything under the control of the army even in any part of the state, is seen as an infringement on the rights of the people so the decision will have some effect in normalizing the current situation.
