Karra wanted to be CM, tried to split PDP!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 19: Even as PDP gave a mellow reaction to allegations made by Tariq Karra at the time of parting ways with the party contending it was her who had advocated alliance with BJP besides proposing name of Mehbooba Mufti as the Chief Minister, there are more layers to what has come to fore with regard to government formation in the second innings post demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in January this year.
Sources said when PDP , Mehbooba Mufti took it long to decide over allying with BJP for second innings of government formation, Tariq Karra tried to rope in many legislators of the party to his fold while he cozied in New Delhi. There was a communication gap between him and the high command at that time and Karra tried to use 'back channel' in motivating them to be by his side as 'senior most' leader and co founder of the party.
Even though Mehbooba Mufti was in huge dilemma for some other reasons over government formation, she was also in know of these 'games' played at the behest of Karra and one more leader who was later divested of the ministry portfolio. Sources said the moves of the Karra were seen as having tried to engineer defection in the party at a time when the leadership was at cross roads and in utter dilemma over government formation. Sources further said Karra, an ambitious politician, tried to keep a flock of PDP MLAs by his side as he was eyeing the chair of Chief Minister along with support of Congress, a political permutation and combination he was managing while calculating the support of independent stalwarts of the state.
Sources said while Karra was doing this 'exercise' on one hand, there was this other 'novice' who was also found comforting with certain New Dehi based Congress leaders in a desperate bid to form the government in the state. However, all this was seen through well in time by an alert Mehbooba Mufti, who did not lose time in forming the government after these developments came to be known in the party circles. She acted fast and this served two purposes, one that she saved her party from possible split and she took over as the Chief Minister, deservedly so, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention that Karra was among most trusted lieutenants of Muftis few years back, his position in the kitchen cabinet changed for various reasons and the gap widened with Karra's winning the LS polls in 2014. While this was an 'elevation' for Karra in having become an MP, he paid a price for it as he was no more in proximity of Muftis, something which had already started much before the LS polls in the state. Entry of some more people, whom Karra referred to as political novices and toddlers in the party 'ate up' his space and the place and position he once enjoyed in the party, sources said.
Having been pushed aside for some more political reasons, Karra had started feeling sidelined in the party hierarchy, sources said adding that it left him sulking for a long time, no matter he tried to grab the same space many times during the time when Mufti Mohammad Syed was the Chief Minister.
