Justice Aradhe to take oath today

Srinagar, Sept 19: Justice Alok Aradhe will take oath as judge of the Jammu and Kashmir high court on Tuesday. According to a notification, chief justice N Paul Vasantha kumar will administer oath to Justice Alok Aradhe at 10:30pm.
Justice Aradhe was transferred from Madhya Pradesh High Court by Law Ministry and was asked to assume his new charge on or before September 23. While the approved strength of judges in the state High Court is 17, Aradhe's appointment will take the bench strength to 10. Born on April 13, 1964 at Raipur, Justice Aradhe was enrolled as advocate on July 12, 1988. He practiced on civil and constitutional, arbitration and company matters before being appointed as additional judge of the high court of Madhya Pradesh on December 29, 2009. He became the permanent Judge on February 15th, 2011. Out of the sanctioned strength of 17 judges, the High Court currently has nine incumbents. Five of the present judges were appointed in March 2013. The appointments were part of the history in its own right as five new judges took oath simultaneously, taking the bench strength to 12 judges However, over the time, the bench strength of the High Court has reduced to 9 against the sanctioned strength. Meanwhile, as per a report released here by the high court, there are over 2 lakh cases pending in the state's highest court as well as subordinate courts. The data for month of June states that there are 58552 cases pending in the high court. Of them 53534 are civil while 5018 are of criminal nature. It states that 1202 cases were instituted in June. 695 civil and 50 criminal cases were disposed during the month. Of the overall cases, 22679(civil) and 859 (criminal) are pending for more than five years, it stated. Similarly, the report reveals that there 141910 cases pending in the subordinate courts. Of hem, 3512 (civil) and 4911 (criminal) cases are pending for more than half a decade.
