Anantnag, Oct 8: A group of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) activists set ablaze an autorickshaw in the heart of Anantnag town for defying separatist Geelani's strike 'calendar'. Official sources said that at about 7.40 pm, a group of youth affiliated with Geelani's TeH hurled a petrol bomb on an autorickshaw for defying the strike calendar. The autorickshaw caught fire and suffered partial damage, they added. Eyewitness said the window panes of the autorickshaw were also damaged due to the fire. However driver Asif Ahmad, son of Mohammad Ismail of Boat Colony, Anantnag, escaped unhurt. According to family, which later staged a protest on Anantnag-Khanabal bridge, they had purchased the autorickshaw just two weeks ago. "It was our only source of income and we had purchased it with our hard earned money," the wailing woman said, demanding compensation and action against culprits. Anantnag police have registered an FIR and started investigation. |
