Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Oct 8:Patients and their attendants at valley's major referral Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) have been facing inconvenience in absence of mandatory amenities like latrine and pure drinking water.
Patients mostly females at SMHS complained that they are facing tough times in absence of pure drinking water and separate latrines in the sanatorium.
Patient's said there is no system of separate latrines in the hospital as both male and female patients are using common bathrooms which are considered to be a major cause of serious diseases including cholera and other allied ailments.
"Female patients In OPD and other departments are being treated as cattle's as the hospital despite having no dearth of qualified physicians has turned out to be tuition centre for trainees who without any assistance of seniors are treating patients," Mymoona a patient from Doabgah Sopore told 'Early Times'.
She said there is no facility of separate bathrooms for female patients to ease themselves as both male and female patients are using the same latrine which is quite morally wrong and one cannot rule out the risk of being victim of serious disease.
"Besides the hospital lacks proper seating and drinking water facility for patients mainly in summers. These problems could become cause of serious diseases including Hepatitis, cholera, jaundice and typhoid," sources in the hospital said.
Sources said for female patients there should be separate halls so that they cannot face any inconvenience.
"Female patients cannot wait in the queues for hours as they sometimes develop such serious problems which cannot be exposed at places where both male and female are together. So there should be separate hall in OPD medical and oncology departments to have their better treatment keeping," they said.
They said despite adequate funds from the government, the hospital administration has never bothered to take make separate arrangement for females.
