srinagar, Oct 8: While Education Minister has "miserably failed" to ensure opening of schools in the Valley, a private school Saturday conducted exams of its students.
Sources said The Education Minister has been facing embarrassment within the cabinet for not creating a conducive environment and convince the parents to send their children to schools. But the Delhi Public School, Budgam, Saturday conducted the exams for the students of Class 9th and 10th. The exams were not conducted in school premises but inside a building near Joggers Park, Rajbagh.
"We can't wait as government is only making announcement about opening of schools. We conducted the exam inside school premises due to security reasons," a school teacher said.
Heavy security arrangements were made around the place where the examination was conducted to ensure schools didn't face any inconvenience.
"Education Minister's announcements are confined to newspapers," a parent who was accompanying his daughter said.
"Now he is not speaking a word on whether the schools will reopen or not or whether students will be given mass promotions," a senior official of the Education department said. "Instead of making announcements, he should have made it sure that the directions are also implemented on the ground. Now he is watching how the education system is getting deteriorated. The education of our children has been badly affected in the ongoing crisis," he added.
The Minister had claimed several times that the summer vacations are officially over and that all the schools and colleges would start functioning soon.
He had also said that the respective district administrations would take a final call considering the 'law and order' situation in their districts.
The minister had also directed the J&K State Board of School Education (BOSE) to start preparations for conducting forthcoming board examinations on time.
