Best Price inspected, 'deceptive' gift packs seized | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: A legal metrology department team today carried out a surprise checking of Welmart India-owned Best Price Wholesale Store here and seized deceptive gift packs of different companies. The checking was carried out to protect the interests of consumers during the festive season, official sources said. The checking was jointly carried out by the Legal Metrology Department's assistant controller Kewal Krishan, Inspector Pooja and Inspector Rohit. The team found a number of packs of gift items which were packed in big packages to mislead the consumers regarding the actual quantity. According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement, a large number of complaints were received telephonically and through social media that national companies had flooded the market with gift packs to fleece the consumers by way of decorative deceptive packs which were marked with excessive MRP as compared to net contents. The packing date of the package was also alleged to be different from the packing date of the individual packs inside the gift packs, sources informed. All such deceptive packages of Bikano, Bonn, Creamica, McVities, Bectora Food Festive, Rassa Food, Delmontic, L'Oréal and other brands were seized by Inspector Pooja and seizure memo was issued to the management of the companies to show cause the discrepancies found in such packages. The team also booked other companies for violation of different provisions, including Kitty Industries for less weight of packages which were seized. |
