Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 24: The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Jammu University, has outsourced the PCP halls which are meant for holding classes of the students, hence depriving students of the necessary infrastructure.
The height of making easy money is such that the bonafide students are forced to take classes in the faculty rooms.
A document available with the Early Times reveals that during the last two years 404 examinations have been conducted in the halls of DDE.
The move has generated handsome amount. However, the real stakeholders, that is, distance learners who pay fee have been denied PCP classes in halls and forced to take the same in small rooms.
Sources mentioned that the DDE was passing through its worst phase during the ongoing tenure of Vice Chancellor Prof R.D. Sharma who has ruined this institution.
"He not only installed an incompetent person of his choice but is also interfering in the day to today functioning of its affairs. Prof Sharma is the brain behind utilization of PCP halls for examination purpose that too in the morning hours," insiders revealed.
Pertinently, the previous DDE Director had opposed the Vice Chancellor vis-à-vis conduct of examination in PCP halls and had clearly stated that halls would not be allowed to use before 2 pm.
Meanwhile, sources said that during the ongoing PCP classes of BA Part-III (started w.e.f 17-10-2016), the classes of Marketing Management, Punjabi, Maths have been accommodated in room No. 107, while the classes of Persian, Arabic and Business Management have been accommodated in room No. 112.
Pertinently, the PCP classes for Semester-I of B.A were also held in Committee Hall (Math) and room No. 2, New Building (Business Management).
"DDE earning crores of rupees annually from the distance learners but still it is yearning for more revenue which is injustice with the students who have paid fees for the course," they said.
Sources further alleged that some of the senior faculty members have managed their names in the time table of PCP classes along with contractual faculties which clearly showed that classes would be taken only by the contractual faculty members whereas the regular faculty members would only take credit.
The task of teaching Persian and Arabic subjects has been assigned to just one teacher namely Dr Aijaz Shah, which is injustice with the distance learners.
