JAMMU, Oct 25: University of Jammu having the dubious distinction of remaining in news for wrong reasons has gone ahead to issue similar syllabus for the students of management faculty at undergraduate level.
Sources in the university said that University has constituted a Board of Studies comprising of senior teachers of concerned subjects drawn from Colleges, Departments of university, Distance Education Department etc in order to frame and finalize syllabus for the students.
Sources further said that it is apparent that syllabus for each subject should cater to the academic requirements of the students as per the subjects opted by them. After meticulous discussion on each aspect of the syllabus in the meeting, final go ahead is given for its further implementation at the college and university levels where thousands of students study following syllabus prescribed for them, they added.
Documents available with Early Times reveal that syllabus issued by the university about Business and Marketing subjects in the management faculty at the undergraduate level is same amalgamating it in nature and contents.
Questioning the justification of such a tenancy putting the career of students in jeopardy, sources said that the teachers assigned with the duty of framing syllabus have not applied their mind to make separate syllabus for these two subjects. They added the dedication of the teachers can be visualized easily who are expected to uplift the academic career of students studying in various colleges and pursuing undergraduate course in Directorate of Distance Education Department.
The documents further reveal that in Distance Education Department, the Assistant Professor of Commerce has given two similar questions for assignment work to the distance students in the subject of Business Management and Marketing Management.
Flaying the superficial approach of the Assistant Professor to perform the official work casually, sources pointed out that each syllabus carries ten questions and while giving assignment work to the distance students, the teacher could have atleast put two different questions for each subject enabling students to prepare their assignments accordingly.
Sources told that the academic work of the university is going on without check and balance system nor any necessity seems to have been felt for adopting such a system by the university authority which can help considerably to take care of such type of short-comings while preparing syllabus for protecting the academic interests of students
