srinagar, Nov 18: For the last three and half years the authorities of University of Kashmir are sitting over the selection process of some of the key positions at the varsity. The non-fulfillment of the posts has resulted into total mess at the university campus.
Sources told Early Times that around a dozen important positions are vacant at the University of Kashmir since 2015. The people managing the affairs at the varsity seem to be non-serious in fulfilling these positions and the same is depicted by the fact that no worthwhile headway has been made in this regard over the past three and half years.
"The delay in filling the positions at the University of Kashmir has led to a situation where some of the senior professors have been given additional charges of some of the departments. As a result the functioning of these departments has been affected to a great extent," said sources.
The posts advertised by the University of Kashmir in 2015 include Controller of Examinations; Director Department of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), two Assistant Directors, DIQA, Director, Physical Education and Sports, Director, Information Technology and Security Solutions (IT&SS).
Positions like Director State Resource Centre (SRC), Director South Campus-University of Kashmir, Rector Leh campus of University of Kashmir, Director Kupwara Campus-University of Kashmir and Provost are also lying vacant for the last three and half years with the students being the ultimate sufferers in this whole scenario.
"The administration at the university is being run on a temporary arrangement, hampering the administration, academic and research activities. Although, the positions were advertised way back in 2015 the interviews are yet to be conducted. This is enough to prove that university authorities are not serious in filling up these positions," said sources.
Sources said that lackadaisical attitude from the university authorities have led to disillusionment among the students, faculty members and researchers. These people are at loss and they are not able to understand how the people at helm at the university can be so indifferent towards this all important issue.
Failure of the university authorities to fulfill these positions has led to additional charge syndrome at the University of Kashmir. Many professors as well as officers at the university are holding more than one position. In such a manner these officials are acting as in-charge officers or head of different departments at the University of Kashmir.
"Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir Professor Talat Ahmad has brought many changes in the administration at the varsity, but lot more needs to be done in this regard. There are many professors and officers at the university who are holding more than one position at the university campus," said sources.
Sources said that although some of the senior professors have been given more than due role and responsibilities in the form of additional charges there are many others who have been left high and dry.
