| GM Shah passes away | | Vohra, Omar, Mufti condole demise; state mourning, holiday today | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 6: A veteran of Kashmir politics and former Chief Minister GM Shah passed away after a cardiac arrest in Srinagar this morning. He was 88.
Shah was a brother in law of the National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah. His death has come within 25 hours of Omar Abdullah taking over as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said, Shah felt uncomfortable this morning due to chest congestion and was immediately shifted to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura where he breathed his last a little later. Doctors attending on him said that he died of cardiac arrest.
Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have condoled demise of the former Chief Minister and conveyed their symathies with the bereaved family. Former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has also condoled death of the veteran political leader.
Meanwhile, the government has announced a three day state mourning and official holiday on Wednesday as a mark of respect to the departed former Chief Minister. As per a Government notification issued here today... | |

JAMMU, Jan 6: With the efforts of assembly staff, the building of J&K assembly was saved from getting destroyed in a fire which broke out around 3.25 P.M today from a room and spread to other adjoining rooms of the building.
As per eye witness, smoke came out from a lower room of the building and within minutes fire spread to other rooms. The staff while getting notice of the fire raised the alarm and rang up fire brigade. New Delhi, Jan 6: In his first ever policy engagement after taking over as Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has strongly called for separating religion from terrorism and put a word of caution on implementation of anti-terror laws.
Abdullah was speaking at the meeting of Chief Ministers on Internal Security, inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh here today.

Jammu, Jan 6: As the gunbattle in Bhati Dhar forest in Poonch district entered the sixth day on Tuesday, the Police and Army said they have adopted a "wait and watch" strategy to take on the holed-up terrorists in cave hideouts in the area.
While an exchange of fire took place this morning, there was no casualty.

Jammu: Amid heightened tension between the two countries, as many as 91 civilians crossed sides via Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing in Poonch district of Jammu on Tuesday, official sources said.
