SRINAGAR, Oct 11: Translating into reality a century long dream, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today flagged off first train in Kashmir Valley which will begin chugging on the commercial run by tomorrow.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi was among a galaxy of political elites and the state Governor NN Vohra who witnessed this historical occasion at Srinagar railway station this morning.
The regular train service will commence from tomorrow. To begin with, the train will run from Rajwansher (Budgam) to Anantnag covering a distance of 66 kilometers. The fare for travel between Rajwansher to Anantnag is Rs. 15. Between Rajwansher and Anantnag, there are 7 railway stations including at Budgam, Srinagar, Pampore, Kakapora, Awantipora, Panzgam and Bijbehara.
The train will leave Rajwansher at 7.10 a.m. daily and arrive at Anantnag at 8.45 a.m. On return journey, the train will leave Anantnag at 9.05 a.m. and arrive at Rajwansher at 10.40 a.m. In the afternoon, the train will depart from Rajwansher at 2.25 p.m. and reach Anantnag at 4 p.m. On return, it will ... | |

JAMMU, Oct 11: The full Election Commission today had yet another meeting in New Delhi but a decision on assembly election schedule is still hanging in suspense as a cryptic silence is being maintained by the poll body.
Reports said that full Election Commission on Saturday held discussions on holding assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, amid indications that a decision may be announced early next week.

JAMMU, Oct 11: Amidst sprucing up of winter capital city, repairs and renovations of roads and buildings, the Government has announced the closure of Civil Secretariat in Srinagar by the end of this month and reopening here on November 10.
According to the Government Order issued by General Administration Department, the Government offices observing five day week shall close at Srinagar on Friday October 31, 2008 after the office hours while as offices observing six days week shall close on Saturday November 1, 2008 after the office hours for annual darbar move. All the offices shall, however, re-open at Jammu on Monday, November 10, 2008.
