| EC maintains suspense | | Poll dates for five states being announced today | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 13: Lack of consensus between members of the Election Commission of India may put elections to Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly off by few months as announcement for five other states –where they are due –is being made tomorrow.
After three days of marathon meetings, the Election Commission has not given any indication of holding or either deferring elections in Jammu and Kashmir. However, reports say that one of the Election Commissioner has a dissent opinion from others as he believed that situation is not ripe for holding elections in this troubled state.
Suspense over assembly polls schedule in six states continued today with the Election Commission said to be still undecided on the timing of the election in Jammu and Kashmir.
The schedule for five states -- Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram -- is likely to be announced by the EC tomorrow.

JAMMU, Oct 13: In a shocking incident, son of a senior Congress leader and legislator was found dead in mysterious circumstances minutes after he got down of his car –was traveling with his three friends –for a natural call on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on the outskirts of Jammu City.
With white foam oozing out of his mouth, the boy, in his mid 20’s was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead. The Police have registered a case for investigation and a murder theory is not ruled out. Family of the deceased alleges that it is a case of murder and they have confirmed some bruises and marks, apparently out of a scuffle, on his body.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari warned that any breach of a river water-sharing treaty by India will be detrimental to the peace process between the nuclear-armed neighbours, media reports said on Monday.
The statement came two days after Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the 450-megawatt Baglihar hydroelectric project over the Chenab River that flows from Kashmir valley of Jammu and Kashmir state into Pakistan.
"Pakistan would be paying a very high price for India's move to block Pakistan's water supply from the Chenab River," Zardari said on Sunday in a statement released through the state-run newswire.

JAMMU, Oct 13: As yet another infiltration bid was today foiled on the Line of Control, India talked tough to Pakistan on the repeated breach of ceasefire
Defence sources said a militant was killed as army today foiled an infiltration bid by ultras along the Line-of-Control in Nowshera sector. A group of over four militants entered the Indian territory from across the LoC in Nowshera sector of the district, a senior defence official said.
"Alert troops guarding the LoC laid a cordon in the area and launched a search operation during which the gunbattle erupted," he said.

LAHORE, Oct 13: Top Indian and Pakistani border officials on Monday opened crucial talks focusing on recent upsurge in cease-fire violations as well as crimes like smuggling and illegal border crossings.
An 18-member delegation of the Border Security Force, led by Additional Director General U K Bansal, travelled through the Wagah border post for the bi-annual meeting with the Pakistan Rangers in the eastern city of Lahore.
