| Has Govt forgotten security of Panchs and Sarpanchs? | | | |
early times report
Jammu, Nov 2: In a typical example of the government's style of functioning, the much hyped and talked about security to elected Panchs and Sarpanchs in the State seems to have suddenly been forgotten leaving over 34,000 such elected village heads in the lurch.
After massive resignations by Panchs and Sarpanchs were triggered first in Baramulla district and then in the southern districts of Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam in September following the killing of a Congress party Sarpanch in Kreeri village of Baramulla district, the State government behaved Pro-actively for a while.
Meetings at the highest level were taken by the State Chief Minister to begin with ...

Srinagar, Nov 2: Amid a massive crisis of LPG cylinders in the Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who should lead by an example, enjoys multiple gas connections.
It is ironic that when people have to wait for hours and sometime pay a hefty amount as bribe to get their LPG connections verified, the Chief Minister has three active gas connections under his name, all of them in Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir is currently struggling with a massive LPG...

This time he raised the issue of employment. His refrain was that the state government has not been paying due attention to the problem facing the youth of the state. He, in addition, accused the authorities of adopting step-motherly treatment towards the youth of Jammu Pradesh and Ladakh region and demanded a fair sha...
| | | | Can No 1 tag hide 'true picture' of health sector in J&K | | | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA
JAMMU, Nov 2: It is indeed an irony that a state where two of the premier government health institutions are being administered on ad-hoc basis while a Medical College is allegedly on the verge of de-recognition for want of faculty was tagged as No 1 State in the health sector.
After receiving the 'prestigious' award at the 'India Today' conclave held yesterday at New Delhi, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah must be in an upbeat mood and basking in the glory, however, his political rivals in the state called pot shots against him and the coalition government for the alleged poor condition of the health sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
While expressing grave concern over feli...

| | | | When Brig Sen scolded Sher-e-Kashmir, Bakshi | | Flash back | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 2: The `lion' of Kashmir and his most trusted lieutenant had to eat a humble pie when Brigadier LP Sen scolded them near Budgam on November 4, 1947. The duo moved out of the room without offering any resistance. But had they any option. It was an outburst of a Brigadier of the Indian army and not the feeble voice of a hapless Kashmiri who was trampled, harassed, humiliated repeatedly by the duo.
When Indian troops landed in Srinagar on October 27, 1947, the National Conference workers headed by Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad provided them vehicles and vital information about the tribesmen. Brigadier LP Sen who commanded the troops has acknowledged their contribution...
| | | | Is Geelani setting the agenda for Government? | | News ANALYSIS | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 2: Who is setting the agenda for Jammu & Kashmir Government, which is headed by National Conference and supported to the hilt by Congress? Believe it or not, it is chairman of Tehrik-e-Hurriyat Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who is setting the agenda for the Government. Geelani is known for his pro-Pakistan views and rabid opposition to the annual Amarnath Yatra. He is also known for his exclusivist and regressive ideology. He is one of the several Kashmiri fundamentalists, including the so-called mainstream Kashmir leaders, who cleansed the Valley of all or almost all non-Muslims and converted it into one-community region more than two decades ago. It is a different ...
