| | | | Corrupt officials in JK to lose pension, property | | | | Jammu, Nov 6 Corrupt bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir have more bad news coming their way - they may lose their pension too besides property acquired through ill-gotten money.
A land-mark anti-corruption law enacted in December last year empowers the state to attach property of public servants and bureaucrats having assets disproportionate to their legitimate income. Eight such properties have been attached and 50 more cases are being scrutinised.
Highly-placed sources in the state government said here today that a proposal to deny pension to officers found guilty of corruption was being examined.

Maximum business establishments remained closed while the public transport also did not ply.
Call for bandh was given by BJP and Refugee United Front while a number of other organizations had also extended their support to it in protest against alleged neglect of Jammu region by the congress-led coalition government.

New Delhi: Political “postures” in the country are often "out of line with our current interests", said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday.
"I am often disappointed by the lack of adequate appreciation in our country, including among our political leaders, of the changing nature of our relationship with the world, and indeed with the region around us,” Singh said at the silver jubilee of Indian Council for Research and International Economic Relations.
"Very often, we adopt political postures that are based in the past and are out of line with our current interests as an increasingly globalised and globally integrated economy," he told the think tank.
