Govt. will not spare land mafia: Azad

Jammu,November 6: Outlining his priority area in the coming months Chief Minister GhulamNabi Azad on Monday announced that now it is time to deal with the flourishing land mafia in the state. Addressing media men here on Monday after the durbar move offices reopened in Jammu, Azad made it clear that in the coming six months his governments focus will be retrieving encroached land from the grip of land mafia which has flourished in the state owing to close proximity with some senior administrative officers. He said, during a survey conducted in the last four five months government has gathered that about 130 lakh kanals of land majority of which belonged to Revenue department has been encroached upon by the land mafia and steps need to be taken to free this land. My government has decided to verify all records before tightening noose around big sharks. He said several among them have joined political parties and are running newspapers to escapre govt scrutiny. Jammu, Nov 6 Corrupt bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir have more bad news coming their way - they may lose their pension too besides property acquired through ill-gotten money. A land-mark anti-corruption law enacted in December last year empowers the state to attach property of public servants and bureaucrats having assets disproportionate to their legitimate income. Eight such properties have been attached and 50 more cases are being scrutinised. Jammu, Nov 06 : A complete but peaceful bandh paralyzed the normal life in Jammu here today on the very first day of re-opening of Civil secretariat in winter capital of the State. Maximum business establishments remained closed while the public transport also did not ply.
