| Tara Chand reviews status of various on-going school projects | | Constitutes committees for probing illegal appointments | | | early times report
SRINAGAR, May 24: Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand convened a high-level officers meeting to review the overall scenario of Education Department and the pace of progress of various on-going school complexes under RMSA and SSA, here today.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Education, Hardesh Kumar, Director, RMSA, H. A. Parray, Director School Education Kashmir, Tariq Ali, Director SSA, S. C. Sahni and Joint Director Planning.
While reviewing the construction work of school buildings, the meeting decided to hire the services of 3rd party monitoring group to supervise the pace of progress and to ensure quality standards. The meeting was informed that Government has already taken up 3rd party evaluation of the damages caused to school infrastructure in various districts of Jammu division due to recent earthquake.
The matter with regard to creation of number of vacancies due to recent promotion of teachers also came under discussion and Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers to take immediate steps to fill these vacancies so that the studies of the ... | |

SRINAGAR, May 24: N. N. Vohra, Governor, laid the foundation of the Science and Technology Block of the Kashmir University at its upcoming Zakura Campus here today. With a built up area of over 45000 square feet, this 3-storey Block will be constructed within a period of one year.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone, the Governor called upon the faculty, students and all the stakeholders to work hard to make the university a centre of excellence. Mumbai, May 24: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday called for increased efforts by the government and financial regulators to channelise domestic savings into financial assets 'to facilitate their deployment in the most productive uses'.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) here, Singh said the Gross Domestic Savings as a percentage of GDP has decreased from 36.8 per cent in 2007-08 to 30.8 per cent in 2011-12, which is a matter of concern. In times of uncertainty, doubts often arise regarding the likely return on financial assets and individuals prefer to hold physical assets like gold and housing, he observed.

New Delhi, May 24: A Naval Board of Inquiry on Friday started probe into the charges made by the wife of a senior Navy officer that she was being forced by her husband into getting "sexually involved" with his colleagues.
The BoI venue was shifted from Karwar in Karnataka to Delhi and during the day-long proceedings, the two sides, the woman and her husband, who is a Navy officer, questioned each other, sources said.

Pulwama, May 24: Four soldiers have been killed in an ambush by suspected militants in the Pulwama district of Indian-administered Kashmir, officials say.
An army spokesman said the attacks came as troops launched an anti-insurgency operation in the Tral area. One militant was also killed.
The soldiers came under fire from militants hiding in a nearby forest.
Kashmir has seen an armed insurgency against Indian rule since 1989, but violence has waned in recent months.
