Terror strikes Srinagar ahead of PM's visit; 8 jawans killed, 3 battling for lives

SRINAGAR: In a brazen terror attack on the eve of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit, suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants on Monday ambushed an Army convoy killing eight Army jawans and injuring 19 others near Hyderpora area on the outskirts of the city. The attack, the second in three days and the deadliest so far this year, was claimed to have been carried out by pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen but security establishment believe that it was handiwork of banned Lashker-e-Taiba terror outfit. The security has been beefed up across the state in view of the attack as intelligence inputs suggested that the militants may try to carry out more such attacks during the VVIP visit. According to sources, unmanned aerial vehicles were also pressed into service to carry out technical surveilance of Pir Panjal and Zabarwan mountain ranges amid inputs that militants armed with rockets had formed their base in the ridges of these mountains. KULGAM: A Lok Adalat was organized by the Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, who is also Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kulgam at Court Complex Kulgam here today. JAMMU: After laying foundation stone of Eco-Park at Peer Ki Gaali on historical Mughal road, the Minister for Forest, Mr. Mian Altaf Ahmad today inaugurated similar facility at City Forest Poonch. In phase 1st Rs. 38.50 lakh are being spent on the Eco-Park at Peer-ki-Gaali, apart from Rs. 90 lakh earmarked for development of view points, while Rs. 10 lakh have been expended on the Eco-Park spread over 269 hectare developed at Poonch and Rs. 20 lakh has been earmarked for construction of Sukh Sarai, Nandan Sarai . BABGUND(PATTAN): Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir Sunday announced that a comprehensive Flood Protection Project (FPP) worth Rs. 35 crore has been formulated by the Flood Control Department for construction of protection bandh to protect the Agriculture and Horticulture land of Babgund and adjacent areas from the Farozpora flood prone Nallah. SRINAGAR: It is to inform the general public and transporters that in connection with 4th Mughal Road Rally 2013 from June 28th to June 29th, all types of vehicles including passenger vehicles, load carriers and Army convoy would not ply on Dubjan-Pir ki Gali-Bufliaz road on June 28th between 7 AM to 5 PM and Daksum-Sinthan pass road on June 29th between 8 AM to 4 PM.
