| 2100 MW projects in pipeline but Baglihar nowhere near completion | | | | Early Times Reporter

• 150 MW will be in the stream by August this year,
• 150 MW in October and another 150 MW in December
• MoU soon on 2100 MW power in Chenab basin
• Project cost around Rs 16,000 crore
• Chenab has total potential of 10,000 MW
As government sounds its intentions of going ahead with construction work on Kishengaga project despite objections from Pakistan, with addition of this another 300 MW of power, the electricity supply position in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to further improve. The sad news, however, is that Baglihar project is still nowhere near completion and the next deadline has been set for March 2009.
Even though this project comes in the Central sector but Jammu and Kashmir gets a royalty share of 12 per cent out of the total production. Not only, the state government is all set to sign a pact with the National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) for 2100 MW projects to be constructed on the River Chenab.

A day after Mehbooba Mufti was re-elected as president of the Peoples Democratic Party for the third time in row, the party has set in motion the process for selection of candidates for upcoming assembly elections.
PDP is first among main political parties –other being Congress and National Conference –to formally initiate the process for identifying the candidates. Mehbooba has has appointed a six member committee to recommend candidates for the ensuing elections to the State Assembly.

A meeting of state cabinet is slated for Monday wherein besides other things the new Chief Secretary is likely to be appointed. A discussion on brief session of assembly, some transfers, postings and promotions in administration are also reportedly on the agenda.
Sources said that an ordinance for setting up the proposed Sharda Peeth University is also likely to come up before cabinet for discussion. The Raj Bhawan, it may be mentioned here, has already sent a draft ordinance to the Education department which was till recently being examined by the Law department.

Even though BR Kundal is yet to step into his new office in the civil secretariat, a warm welcome awaits the son of soil in Jammu as he is expected to visit here next week.
No scheduled has been announced about his arrival in the town yet his supporters have placed orders for making banners and placards for according a warm reception to the Minister who has regarded as pride of Jammu.
