| Laden's CD calling for 'jehad' seized from Mendhar | | | | Jammu, Aug 13
The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has recovered four CDs, one of which carries a speech by Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden calling upon the youth to join 'jehad'.
Senior Suprerintendent of Police (SSP), Poonch S D Singh Jamwal, informed today that out of the four CDs, which were recovered on Saturday at the scene of an encounter at Gursai Nullah in Mendhar tehsil, one carried a 28-minute message of Laden for militants and youth asking them to join jehad.
''It is the first time here and probably in Jammu and Kashmir as well that any Laden CD has been recovered. Of course it is very significant as it was recovered from the possession of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants,'' he said.
''The rcovery clearly establishes a link between al-Qaeda and LeT,'' he said, adding that the state police is ready to face any challenge from militants.
Police sources said the person urging youth to join jehad clearly appeared to be Laden. However it is still to be ascertained where and when the CD was originally made.

Over 500 people, mostly anti-social elements, have been rounded up as "precautionary measure" in Jammu region as part of the security measures for Independence Day, a top police official said.
"As a precautionery measure and to ensure incident free Independence Day, over 500 persons, most of the suspects and anti-social elements, were detained in Jammu," Deputy Inspector General, Jammu-Kathua range, Niyaz Mehmood told pti.
However, several of them were released after questioning by the police, he said and termed this is as a routine drill to round up suspects and anti-social elements.
