JAMMU, Sept 29: "The Chief Minister has failed in providing security to elected Panches and Sarpanches. More than one year has passed, but the State Government has not yet taken the empowerment of Panchayat members issue seriously. The Chief Minister should immediately resign from the chair as he is 'responsible' for the killings of Panchayat members. If the Government had provided timely security and empowered the panchayat members, the situation might not have deteriorated. The Chief Minister is responsible for the killings of Sarpanches in Kashmir and it is murder of democracy. A ten-member delegation met AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi yesterday (Thursday) at New Delhi and a...

JAMMU, Sept 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his party are opposing tooth and nail the popular demand seeking empowerment of panchayats through the instrumentality of 73rd constitutional amendment that not only transfers some real powers to panchayat representatives but also places at their disposal the required funds needed for catering to the immediate local needs of the people. They are advancing spurious arguments. | | | | Delhi not shaken by Zardari and Khar's rant on Kashmir | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 29: Presumably having buckled under the pressure from the Army, the ISI and the extremists both Pakistan President, Asif Ali Zardari and the Foreign Minister, Hina Rabani Khar, have left no stone unturned in raking up the Kashmir issue on the floor of the United Nations.
The two made no secret of their plan of continuing moral, diplomatic and material support to the people of Kashmir, who according to Zardari and Khar, were engaged in the liberation struggle.
Seemingly Zardari and Khar do not feel the need for listening to Washington's suggestions on the need for resolving the Kashmir issue amicably through sustained dialogue because they know that the US ...
