| CM’s ex-security in-charge Shabir again in soup, SP rebuts own statement | | Inquiry into Larnoo molestation case | | Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Jan 21: Chief Minister's ex-security in-charge DySP Shabir Ahmed is again in the news for wrong reasons. Two girls, aged 17 and 18 of village Larnoo were allegedly molested by cops led by SHO Kulgam in an overnight raid. Government has instituted an inquiry into the alleged incident of night raid asking Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kulgam M.Y. Zargar to furnish factual report within a fortnight. A Government handout sprang surprise since the SP Mohammed Shafi who today tore apart honour and dignity of the two girls and their family by labeling them as rogues besides rebutting the allegations of night raid. He stood like rock behind the concerned SHO, giving him a clean chit while claiming that no night raid was conducted and the family members were arrested on Sunday morning and released after questioning. He further said that none of the family members were beaten or girls molested while adding that the family members of the two girls attacked police personnel inside their house. The SP brazenly rebuffed the high-handedness allegations stating that family members including the two girls had inflicted injury marks upon themselves to portray police in a bad light. However, a day later, District Superintendent of Police placed 3 police officials under suspension besides attaching SHO police station Kulgam for alleged excesses in a raid carried out during the intervening night of 19 and 20 January at Larnoo village. Neither the handout nor the SP's version makes any mention of the high profile DySP. Instead, story revolves around the Deputy Commissioner and the concerned SHO. Deputy Commissioner this morning visited the village and the house where the incident took place to take stock of the situation. Information handout claimed that police had raided the house to arrest family members in connection with FIR lodged against them. Lawlessness can be gauged from the fact that the police lodged an FIR in the morning and went to allegedly arrest the girls in the mid of night. Family of Abdul Hameed Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Laroo village, displayed visible signs of torture, while blocking the road with other locals for hours at a stretch. Family members alleged that police had been harassing them for quite some time now at the behest of Sheikh's eldest son over a property dispute. According to the family members, police raided their house at around 11:30 pm on Saturday and beat the family members ruthlessly. "I was severely injured and my family rushed me to the hospital in neighbouring Bugam village. We did not rush to the Kulgam hospital fearing more harassment at the hands of police," said Abdul Hameed Sheikh, who bore multiple injuries all over his body. He said police raided their house again at around 1 am on Sunday and alleged that policemen started molesting his daughters. "The clothes of my daughters aged 17 and 18 were torn off by policemen, following which they gagged their mouths with cloth and took them away," Sheikh said. According to official sources, it is mandatory for SHO to inform DySP about night raid especially in terrorism infested areas. And if he has not been informed, responsibility should be fixed on both the SHO and DySP concerned. |
