Kulgam, Jan 21: Taking swift action against the police party that had raided the house of Abdul Hamid Sheikh during the intervening night of January 19 and 20 and allegedly thrashed, molested and tortured his family including two teenage girls, authorities on Monday placed three policemen under suspension while the SHO was attached and one SPO terminated from the service.
Deputy Inspector General Police South Kashmir after visiting the house of victims suspended Sub-Inspector Tariq Yousf, Senior Grade Constable, Ali Mohammad and Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad while Station House officer Muzaffer Ahmad was line attached and SPO Shakeel Ahmad terminated.
The Police have also initiated parallel inquiry into the case for further course of action and Additional SP has been appointed as investigate officer. DIG South Kashmir confirmed that the action was taken against the men who were part of the police party that raided the house and departmental inquiry has also been initiated against them.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Jahangir Ahmad Mir told Early Times that magisterial inquiry officer has been directed to complete the enquiry with 15 days. Magisterial inquiry officer, Additional District De-velopment Commis-sioner Kulgam also visited the spot and interacted with family members and the two girls who were arrested by police during night hours. Family members during interaction with the magisterial inquiry officer again levelled strong allegations of molestation and harassment against police and demanded stern action against the policemen involved in the raid.
The officer has anno-unced January 22 and 23 as dates for recording statements before him.
Meanwhile, protests co-ntinued on second consecutive day in Kulgam today with complete shutdown against the police excesses. |
