This is apropos the brutal rape that happened in Delhi recently . It is heartening to note that the sleeping consciousness of the Indian nation was galvanised by this accident and a large number of people took out candle light marches in various parts of the country . I also happened to join one such march that concluded at Bahu Plaza , Jammu . But the situation cannot be changed by just taking out marches and then forgetting the whole issue . As per the newspaper reports , on that fateful night one girl with a boy accompanying her boarded a bus at about 9.30 PM in winter month and few people inside the bus beat up the boy and committed most brutal rape . The rapists namely Mukesh , Ram Singh , Pawan Gupta , Vinay sharma and Akshay Thakur were all caught and now facing trial . One of them is a minor and it is said that he was the one who was most violent with the hapless girl . It is good that the name of the victim is not disclosed officially but the media has given her names like Nirbhaya , Damini and Anamika . Our nation must think as to why this brutal rape happened . What is happening to the society and why our society is becoming so intolerant . On a discussion in a nescafe with an unknown friend it was pointed out that why the boy and girl went out in a winter night at about 9.30 PM and may be both of them were acting as lovers and that it may have aroused the persons inside the bus . Even though the supposition is wrong and it doesn't justify the brutal rape that happened but still it asks us to think about the moral values that are being imparted to modern children . Now a days there are a lot of bad things happening and there is a culture of boys and girls moving like lovers in the city streets . Even though the love is eternal but true love really happens after age of thirty years when both the persons understand the modalities of the life and its complications. Before that it is just lust and curiosity . Then there is the culture of inter caste and inter religious marriages that is also destroying the very basic fabric of the Indian society . When one sees that many of the old civilizations died down but the Indian civilization is still moving ahead then one wonders about how the Indian civilization has survived so long despite so many centuries of the foreign rule . In my personal view , this is one of the positive effect of the prevalent caste system in India because it safeguarded the society from the foreign influences to a large extent . Even though I do not support caste system in its present form but still I strongly believe that the culture of inter caste and inter religion marriages should voluntarily end and all the communities should have mutual respect for each other . In fact there is a saying in our duggar language that the girls of all the communities are respectable for all people and thats how it should be . But the inter caste marriages destroy this healthy balance and when there are good boys and good girls in all the castes then what is the need of the inter caste marriages ? The khap panchayats in Haryana have been demanding that the girl must marry in their same caste with the approval of the parents till the age of 25 years . I think there is a need to impart healthy moral education to the people and all the people should try to voluntarily end this menance of inter caste marriages that causes animosity within the society . There is also a big need to make the society more educated and development oriented and inculcate the culture of scientific temper and rewarding the merit so that the young boys and girls give much more importance to their studies rather than these soon to end love affairs . Last but not the least , the law should be amended to quickly deliver justice in the rape cases . The motto is that " The Royale Gupta Warriors never fight for themselves but fight for a bigger cause . " Vande Matram and Jai Hind |
