early times report
Kishtwar, Jan 27: Even as the state government confers awards on scribes on the Republic Day for their performance, the Kishtwar police ‘strengthened' democracy by detaining Early Times local correspondent, Asif Iqbal Naik for several hours and that too in connection with a fake FIR. Asif was let free after furnishing a surety bond of Rs 5000.
The story relates to December 30, 2012 incident when two notorious cheats Sajjad Ahmed Najjar and Firdous Ahmad Ganie of Kiashtwar tried to assault Asif and later attempted to crush him under their vehicle when he was purchasing medicines for his ailing mother.
Imm3diately after the incident, Asif lodged a complaint with the concerned police. However, no action was taken as the accused happen to ne close aides of newly inducted minister, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo. Asif sought judicial intervention and filed a complaint in a court of law. The learned magistrate issued warrants against the accused which enraged them further.
Both began to threaten Asif into submission. He was told to withdraw the complaint which he resisted. Last evening when the two accused were dead drunk, they entered the local hospital and raised a hue and cry. One of them, Firdous fell down and sustained injuries. Immediately they rushed to the police station and registered an FR against Asif.
Firdosu was sent for medical examination where the concerned doctor confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol land the injury was natural.
The two accused, it has been reliably confirmed, are close associates of newly inducted minister, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo. The nexus has been pressurizing Asif to withdraw the complaint in lieu of withdrawal of FIR by the accused.
While asif was in detention, a police officer apologized to him for registering a `bogus' FIR against him. He admitted that it was done under political pressure.
It is pertinent to mention that "Early Times" like other news paper carried the news item against the accuse Sajjad Ahmed Najjar based on the action in a cheating case initiated by ADM Kishtwar Rajesh Kumar Shavan. The case is presently under purview of honorable J & K High Court after accuse Sajjad Ahmed Najjar approach the honorable court seeking stay on the proceedings initiated by ADM Kishtwar against him.
