| Tainted bureaucrats enjoy key posts in JK | | | Javaid naikoo srinagar, Jan 27: Notwithstanding the tall claims of ministers of fighting corruption, around one dozen tainted bureaucrats have been appointed by them (ministers) during the past four years. One Mukhtar-ul-Aziz, former Additional Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar city for land acquisition, who went into hiding in 2010 after a scandal of one crore surfaced against him is presently enjoying a key post in administration despite charges of corruption pending against him in vigilance department. The inquiry report submitted by the Vigilance Organization revealed that Mukhtar-ul-Aziz and T.K Sadhu, then executive engineer construction division of Ganderbal district have under a criminal conspiracy facilitated wrongful payment of undue compensation to the tune of Rs one crore to nine beneficiaries in Srinagar while making payment in non-existing shops in Srinagar's Khanyar area during land acquisition process. The vigilance department, which strongly advocated against any anticipatory bail, also pointed out that that these two officials were having access to official records even after they were transferred and were powerful enough to win over important witnesses and destroy the vital evidences against them. The department's apprehensions came true when the accused, out on bail since 2011, not only got the cases delayed but managed prime posting allegedly through senior ruling party ministers of Srinagar. It does not stop here, Mukhtar-ul-Aziz last year managed to get a key position of joint director with the Handlooms Department with exclusive rights on disbursing and drawing powers despite facing the charges of fraudulently favoring people worth Rs one crore. According to the sources, the joint director is actually backed by a senior minister from Srinagar. Sources also said that this person is bullying employees to follow his line up or be ready to face troubles. Sources said the employees, particularly females, are lodging complaints continuously with higher ups to transfer the officer and attach him till his previous case is pending for final judgement, but until now no action was taken against this person by anybody. One senior Handlooms Department officer refused to comment on the issue. Joint Director is not the only Bureaucrat enjoying such powers despite having corruption charges pending against him, there are around six other bureaucrats, including one female, of the rank of commissioners continue prime posting in administration despite the vigilance's negative report in corruption cases pending against them in the past four years.
