Kashmiris hold Cong, NC for mass exodus of Pandits

early times report
JAMMU, Jan 27: The National Conference (NC) and Congress is facing a stiff opposition in Kashmir with more and more people not only holding them responsible for the present turmoil in Kashmir but accusing them for the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits.
A sizable number of Kashmiri Muslims who are fed up with the 23 year long turmoil and killing of innocent people blame ruling alliance and not militants and separatists for the present mess and turmoil in Kashmir. These people are of the firm belief that had the two parties not taken some un popular decisions and rigged the Assembly elections in 1987 the situation could have been better.
Recently in two separate conventions the senior citizens Forum and peoples Conference of Sajjad Lone at Kangan and Ganderbal in central
Kashmir took a dig at Congress and NC leadership and accused it of ruining Kashmir for their vested interests. The gun would have never entered Kashmir had the Assembly elections not been rigged in Kashmir during 1987 and the opposite Muslim United Front (MUF) candidates
allowed to bag some seats, said Mir Ghulam Rasool Batrwani a trade unionist and Peoples Conference senior leader.
He said NC misled people for over 60 years for its vested interests and whenever it felt threat to its Government in the state it played the card of plebiscite and accused India of forcibly occupying Kashmir.
Mir said right from Sheikh Abdullah to present Chief Minister NC adopted this policy and seeing that Kashmir has bleed a lot in 23 year long turmoil the NC leadership still continues the same policy. He said the Congress on the other hand also worked hand in glove with NC leadership to further the agenda of both the parties for their vote
bank policies.
Mir said Congress never showed sincerity in settling the Kashmir issue but it rigged elections when NC was out of power from 1953 to 1975 and
later again the elections were rigged in 1983 by NC itself and 1987 by
both the alliance partners.
Mir holding the two parties for mass exodus of Pandits said their
wrong policies were responsible for the mass exodus of minorities in Valley there by giving a setback to centuries old pluralistic culture of Valley which was nurtured by both the communities.
Earlier addressing the senior citizens at Kangan Mushtaq Ahmed another trade union leader said that time has come when the people of Kashmir should call their Pandit brethren back. The Conference took a solemn pledge to work for return of migrants and restoration of composite culture in Valley.
He said Kashmiris feel themselves incomplete and aloof with the migration of the Pandit brethren who have made a tremendous contribution in nurturing the composite culture of Kashmir.
The two trade union leaders said that Kashmiris heaved a sigh of relief during NDA rule at Delhi and the then prime Minsiter Atal Behari Vajpayee had taken many sincere steps to resolve the Kashmir
issue once for all. But things took a critical turn after UPA led Congress came to power at Delhi in 2004 as they repeated their old policies towards Kashmir and Kashmiris.
Opposing any kind of violence the senior citizens and PC activists have said that a pragmatic approach is needed to settle the vexed Kashmir issue. They expressed grave concern over rising corruption,
price hike and growing unemployment and accused both centre and state governments for their failure in solving these problems. They said these problems are the outcome of wrong policies of the Government.
