| Vohra spells out security priorities | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 27: Governor NN Vohra by making it clear that security forces can't even think of lowering of guards unless the situation along the borders with Pakistan improves, has clearly and categorically reflected the thinking of the Centre on this issue. The Governor, who had vast and deep knowledge of the ground situation in the State and also how things are developing in the neighbourhood, made this statement in his address to the State on R-day. His statement is also at variance with the political understanding and rhetoric of the NC headed state government. The NC leadership had often made remarks against the Army and had even in the past accused it of handing hand in the grenade attacks in the valley. The Governor, who is constitutional head of the elected government, though didn't say directly his opinion directly on the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSAP) but by saying that they (Army) can't afford to lower guard, also had apparently implied that their hands also need to be strengthened, thus indirectly making it know that he is not in favour of even partial lifting of the AFSPA. This becomes clear when Army chief had also said categorically that there is no question of revocation of AFSPA as of now. The Governor made this statement in the backdrop of the developments along the LoC, which had strained the relations between India and Pakistan, with Prime Minister going to the extent of saying that things with Pakistan can't be same any more. The statement of the Governor should be analysed and viewed in right perspective by the National Conference leadership which is always making controversial statement every then and now. The demand for AFSPA should be dropped immediately by the NC leadership and it has been hinted more profoundly by the Governor.
