NSF takes on JU professors for extravagance
1/27/2013 11:47:39 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 27: National Secular Forum has requested the Governor N N Vohra, who is the Chancellor of Jammu University, to hold an inquiry against some departments at University of Jammu which are spending lavishly on expensive furniture and other infrastructure for senior professors. Talking to the media persons here, Surjit Choudhary State Sr. Vice President NSF, said that the University authorities have miserably failed to provide basic amenities to the students who have been facing many problems in their day-to-day life but the Heads of various departments and even some senior professors were busy purchasing expensive infrastructure like tables, chairs and personal computers for their personal use.
"Some departments including Economics, Hindi, and The Business School etc have purchased the chairs and tables worth lakhs of rupees while the students have been denied basic amenities.
We appeal the Governor N N Vohra to direct the Vice-Chancellor to hold an inquiry against these departments so that wasteful expenditure is avoided on the campus," Choudhary said.
He said that some heads of departments and senior professors were more interested in living a lavish life on the campus by causing huge loss to the varsity exchequer. "They (heads and professors) are least bothered to mitigate the problems being faced by the students on the campus. Such professors and heads should be held accountable and strict action should be penalized," Choudhary said.
He hoped that Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohan Paul Singh who had withdrawn the official vehicles from senior officers and professors would take an appropriate action in this regard.
He, however, warned that the NSF activists would hold indefinite protests if the varsity authorities failed to take action against these heads and professors. Among those who were present in the press-conference included, Vimal Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Ishant kumar, Parvinder Singh, Neeraj kumar, Sachin kumar, and others.
