Gujjar leaders call upon community to struggle for rights

JAMMU, Jan 27 : A one-day meeting of prominent Gujjar leaders, social activists, Panchs & Sarpanchs was held at Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust, Jammu on 27th January, 2013 under the Chairmanship of Shah Mohammad Chowdhary, Advocate, President, J&K Gujjars United Front. The community leaders gave a clarion call to launch a sustained struggle for their long overdue political, economic and cultural rights.
The Gujjar Leaders discussed the present political, economic and social scenarios of the Gujjars and identified some major areas for sustained struggle. The issued which assumed prominence for future course of action were. Political reservation in the Legislative Assembly and Panchayats at the level of village, block and district. Shah Mohd. Choudhary asked for removing imbalances in recruitments and promotions to various state services and called for due representation of Gujjars and Bakerwals to the Public Service Commission and SSRB; Participants called for implementation of all decisions of the Gujjar-Bakerwal Advisory Board; The participants noted with deep concerns and regrets the misutilisation and misappropriation of central funds and called for its rationalization and accountability; Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub Plan (SCA to TSP) should be adhered strictly as per provisions and the government should also bank on special contingency funds, so that no more excuses in execution of development and welfare projects for tribes.
To safeguard and protect the interests of tribal communities the Government of India as well as various state governments have created specially dedicated Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The leaders also asked for revival and strengthening of mobile schools, immediate introduction of departments of Gojari in both the Universities of State and two Central Universities and opening of Tribal University. It was resolved in the meeting for immediate special survey to find our economic conditions and poverty level among the Gujjars and devise special measures for most disadvantages sections.

Noor Alam Ex-Sarpanch, Ch. Abid Hussain Ex-Sarpanch, Ch. Alam Hussain Sarpanch, Ch. Asgar Ali Sarpanch, Ch. Nadeem Ahmed Sarpanch, Haji Alla Rahim, Ch. Shokat Javed, Shokat Parvej, Zafar Khatana, Mohd. Yousuf, Ahsanullah, Ch. Mohd, Iqbal Sarpanch, Ch. Maqbool, Ch. Mukhtar Ahmd, Ch. Manzoor Ahmed and many others.
