| MLC Jugal calls on Railways Minister, discusses Katra rail line issues | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Jan 27: Member Legislative Council (MLC), Jugal Kishore Sharma called on Union Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to discuss issues regarding the ongoing work on Udhampur-Katra Rail line project and the modifications in the construction of Katra Railway station. During the meeting, MLC Jugal Kishore apprised the Minister that the Railway Authorities are proposing to erect gates on the flyovers connecting two sides of Katra Railway Station which could obstruct the smooth movement of local public residing in villages adjacent to the station. The legislator demanded to drop the proposal of setting up gates on either sides of the flyovers on Katra Railway Station so that the general public of hamlets adjoining the area do not face any difficulty. Urging the Railways Minister to construct the Katra Railway Station on modern lines, MLC Jugal Kishore said that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has already crossed the 1 crore mark and in the near future the numbers would further swell. "Keeping in view the huge rush of yatries including those coming from abroad, the Katra Railway Station should be equipped with all modern facilities and amenities so that the pilgrims especially coming from foreign countries do not come across any complicacy on their arrival at Katra," Jugal Kishore said. MLC also demanded suitable compensation to the affected people whose lands or structures were acquired on Katra-Banihal section of the rail line upto Qazigund. Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal after listening to the MLC, assured that he would talk to the Divisional Manager and ask him to personally visit Katra to look into the issues raised here and try to resolve the matters at the earliest. |
