| Protests erupted after murder, accused flee from police station; rearrested | | | Saahil Suhail Anantnag, Mar 20 : Protests erupted here in south Kashmir's Akad Sligam area after allegedly murder accused flee from police station Mattan Anantnag. Scores of people started protesting against the police failure on Khanabal Phalgam Road and demanded swift action against the cops who are allegedly involved in managing the safe escape of the accused from police custody, who before days killed his own brother (Mohd Shafi Bhat) after attacking him with iron axe. Sources inside police said that the murder accused identified as Gulam Nabi Bhat s/o Gull Mohd Bat resident of Mal-Akad Sligam, fled from the custody after he requested them take him out from the lockup for drinking water and then quickly jumped over the wall. Mattan Police has reportedly constituted a special team as to re-arrest the accused. Senior police officials later reached on the spot and pacified protesters, eyewitnesses told early times. However during evening hours accused namely Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of Gull Mohammad Bhat resident of Mala, Akad, Anantnag, arrested in case FIR number 14/2013 under section 302 RPC in police station Mattan, was finally re-arrested from Srigufwara area. |
