Regretting the silence of the Opposition over the killing of a youth in Sopore by militants the previous day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah questioned the political hypocrisy over bloodshed in Kashmir. Narrating the incident, wherein a youth was followed by militants inside the mosque in Sopore town and shot dead, Omar said, "had it been done by the security forces, some members would have torn their clothes and abused India and security forces; but since it has been done by the militants , there is lull in the House which is shameful". "We should condemn bloodshed in unequivocal terms whosoever does it. Such incidents should be condemned on either sides. Mikes, fans and desks would have been thrown around in the House had the youth been killed by security forces. Bloodshed is bloodshed... and should be condemned by all of us and not make hue and cry to make certain sections happy," Omar reiterated. MY Tarigami while responding to the concern expressed by the CM said that it has been the tradition of the House to condemn such incidents without any prejudice. "Except for some members in emphasis, this House has condemned such incidents of bloodshed in unison," Tarigami said. Speaker Mubarak Gul while expressing solidarity on behalf of the House with the Chief Minister, condemned the incident and expressed condolences of the House to the family of the bereaved. Sohail Ahmad Sofi, S/o GN Sofi, R/o Sopore was chased by militants and shot dead inside the mosque when he tried to seek refuge there on Tuesday. |
