et plus report
Jammu, Mar 20: Timely intervention of Jammu police foiled a "possible" clash between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Conference (NC) workers, here today.
Fumed over yesterday's development during the proceedings of Legislative Assembly where in MLA, Nagrota Constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma, who is also state BJP president, was suspended for the rest of Budget Session by the Speaker, Mubarak Gul for making provocative gestures towards Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, number of BJP workers including women today gathered at the party office and criticized the state government.
While the BJP workers were deciding to come out on roads to hold protest demonstration against the NC-Congress coalition government, number of workers of NC especially the women headed by NC, MLA, Bimla Luthra reached near Maheshpura Chowk and attempted to march towards BJP office to protest against BJP president and MLA, Jugal Kishore Sharma for allegedly disrespecting a woman Minister.
After receiving information about NC women workers marching towards BJP office, the police teams headed by senior police officers reached near Kachi Chawani area and stopped them to march further. The NC workers were raising slogans against BJP and its leadership. They alleged that "BJP leadership shows disrespect to women folk and the same must by strongly condemned by one and all. They pointed out that the attempt to assault on a lady politician speaks scant regard BJP has for women folk. Later, the senior police officers persuaded them to not to proceed further, following which the demonstrators dispersed from there.
In the meantime, BJP workers including women and men came out of the party office and marched in procession in the old city area, raising slogans against the coalition government.
The police officers immediately rushed towards them and tried to convince the demonstrators to change their route. The police officers escorted them to ensure there is no clash between the workers and supporters of both NC and BJP. The BJP workers alleged that by suspending MLA, Jugal Kishore, it has become crystal clear that NC and Congress are deliberately making attempts to silent the voices of nationalist forces living in Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstrators moved from Rani Talab, Sabzi Mandi, Dhonthly Bazar, Link Road, Jain Bazar, Chowk Chabutra and finally reached at Panjthirthi near Raj Bhawan. The speakers while addressing the party workers demanded immediate revocation of suspension of BJP MLA. They criticized the policy of coalition government and alleged that the government is trying to weaken the voice of Jammu. Later, the gathering dispersed peacefully.
