NC-Congress coalition to stay inspite of growing conflict
3/20/2013 10:53:12 PM
ET Plus Report

Jammu, Mar 20: Despite growing conflict between the state unit of the Congress and the National Conference there seems to be no possibility for any rupture in the ruling coalition.
The latest reason that prompted two Congress Ministers, Raman Bhalla and Sham Lal Sharma, to dish out a threat that they would quit the Government was inability of the NC leadership and the speaker to tame the otherwise volatile MLA, Er. Rashid.Bhalla and Sharma were peeved over the way Er. Rashid raised his pitch while voicing anti-India sentiments over the issue pertaining to the execution of Guru and the Government’s refusal to hand over his body to his family members.
In fact Bhalla and Sharma wanted the NC leadership and the speaker to initiate measures that could check Rashid from using the floor of the Assembly for anti-India utterances. And in order to force the speaker and the NC leadership to bridle Rashid Sharma and Bhalla threatened to quit the Government when they know that they cannot take any decision on their own and whatever step they wish to take has to have prior approval from the Congress high command.
And even the senior NC leaders aired their views on the issue pertaining to sharma’s and Bhalla’s threat to quit the Government and said that it was part of their (Congress ministres’) plan to keep their vote bank intact. These NC leaders said that the coalition Government would complete its six-year term and not fall at any cost.
This shows that the NC leadership is not ready to lose power as it believes that rupture in the NC-Congress coalition may give rise to Congress-PDP alliance which could seal the fate of the NC. Reports said that even the PCC chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz advised the congress ministers to be careful while airing their views on different issues. Soz is said to have conveyed to his party men that since the Congress high command is opposed to any attempt at snapping ties with the NC it is the duty of all Congress leaders, including legislators and ministers, to abide by the wishes of the party high command.
