Et Report Srinagar, July 29 : Soaring mercury has left parents aghast over the recent decision of Education department not to extend Summer vacations in Kashmir Valley. Most of the children studying in government schools in North and Kashmir could be seen taking classes either in open or in tin sheds. "There is scarcity of water and in other words all the government schools are lacking basic facilities. School Children are sulking in this soaring temperatures while the authorities are unmoved," one of the parents told CNS. Reports said that even in private schools the children are feeling it uneasy to stay in classes. "In West when temperature crosses 32 degrees Celsius, Government their calls it Level 3 and advise people to keep their children inside. But here in Kashmir Valley we have already crossed that 'Level 3' as the maximum temperature recorded is 36 Degree Celesius," a Meteorological official told CNS. Director Education Mir Tariq said that it is up to the Chief Minister to announce special holidays for the schools on account of soaring temperatures. "It is not my prerogative to declare special holidays. Only Chief Minister can do it. We have already requested PHE Department to supply drinking water to those schools which needs it most," he said. |
