| Youth disgruntled with party's senior leadership | | Shopian Congress a divided house | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, July 29 : At a time when political parties in Kashmir are preparing for for campaigning ahead of 2014 assembly elections, congress youth workers of Shopian are disgruntled with the senior leadership of the party. Besides quoting several incidents of the inefficiency of their senior leaders, youth congress workers allege that senior members of the party are yet to attend a single workers party meet from last two years in the area. Alleging double standards by the senior leaders, the youth workers allege that in order to keep their chairs of district president and other party portfolios intact, they talk in one language with state congress high command while as at ground they behave differently with congress workers at lower levels in the party, resulting in poor electoral prospects for the party in the district. The party workers said that at a time when congress candidates for district Shopian face tough competition from PDP in shopian and Wachi constituencies, the inefficiency of parent body is deteriorating chances of the party further. Talking to Early Times Plus youth party workers said that while as youth party workers conducted many meetings in both the constituencies of district shopian in previous years, not even once anybody from parent body attended such meetings , dampening the morale of the young workers. They said that while as in other Districts like Anantnag and Ganderbal state congress party workers have gained so much of public support over the years and the result are obvious to everybody, however the prevailing lobbyism and arrogance among members of the party in the area is turning once competitive constituencies as grave yards for other political parties. The workers said that growing lobbyism within state congress in district shopian can be understood from the scuffle which broke out between two rival groups in May last. Party workers also said that marred by accusations and allegations prevailing in the state congress some senior congress leaders along with hundreds of workers are joining major opposition political party of the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the process is likely to take fast impetus in coming days keeping in view the sense of insecurity prevailing among the workers and response from the high command. Workers also said that because of the lobbyism at other places in south kashmir state congress had to face a huge loss recently after one of its senior congress leader namely Abdul Majeed Padder of Noorabad Constituency formally joined PDP along with his 300 supporters. |
