| R&B department fails to restart work on Ganpat bridge | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 29: The Jammu and Kashmir government has failed to start work on Ganpat bridge in Doda district of Jammu region despite making repeated assurances to the contrary. Recently the road and buildings minister had assured that the work on the bridge will be restarted and people of Doda will be given an easy connection to rest of the world. But this assurance has only remained on papers and nothing concrete has been done so far. The undue time being taken to start the work is taking a toll on the developmental projects in the area which are stuck up as the heavy earth moving machinery can't be brought from the existing road via Paryote. It is a fact that the R&B minister hails from the same area and is a second time MLA from Doda Assembly constituency but despite that he has failed to protect the interests of people of the area who have been suffering due to bad road connectivity. The work on the Ganpat bridge over river Chenab in Doda was started during the tenure of former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad but it was stopped as some technical problem. The work was handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) and crores of rupees were spent on the project but to no avail. That time the managing director of JKPCC was Dilip Thusoo, and he came under suspicion but no action was taken against him. The government failed to take any action against anybody who was responsible for the stop of work due to technical problems. It was the JKPCC who was and is responsible for the mess but no action has been taken. Now, after the announcement of R&B minister that work will resume on the bridge as technical problem has been addressed had generated fresh hopes among people but the government fails to restart the work on the bridge. The people have sought reasons for failure of the R&B department to start work on a vital link. |
