Srinagar, July 29 : Life is limping back to normal in the Budgam district of J&K where curfew and restrictions were lifted following improvement in overall situation last night. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced government job for one member of the deceased woman. The Chief Minister also directed for initiating the inquiry into the circumstances leading to the injury and subsequent death of the woman. The civil society has called a meeting of leaders of different organizations this afternoon to discuss the measures how to stop such incidents in future. Curfew restrictions were re-imposed in parts of Badgam district after a woman, Fatima of village Dobjan, injured in the violence and succumbed to injuries in hospital on July 26. However, police said restrictions under section 144 of the CrPC were imposed to maintain law and order. Official sources said there is were restrictions in any part of the district today. However, security forces and state police personnel remained deployed are maintaining strict vigil to prevent any law and order problem, they said. Curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure in some areas on July 24 following sectarian violence during which several houses were damaged and scores of people were injured. A number of separatist leaders visited the affected areas and hold meetings with the members of both the sects and urged them to maintain peace and communal harmony. All mainstream parties, including ruling National Conference (NC) and main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) besides separatist organisations and leaders have appealed for peace to defeat the forces behind these clashes to divide the people in the valley. The government through regional Red Cross Society has already provided aid and assistance to the natives of the district who were affected by the recent violence, which started from a scuffle between two people near Khomeni Chowk but snowballed into violence engulfing large areas in the district. The Deputy Commissioner distributed 181 blankets, 45 sets of kitchenware, dress materials and other things to around 100 affected people. He said 52 victims from Sofipora, Shahpora and Allahpora were also given Rs 5,000 each by the society as a gesture of assistance |
