Srinagar, Aug 11: While Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir has been publicly claiming that he was against casual labour culture in the state, hundreds of casual labourers in Agriculture, Sericulture and other related departments engaged by his ministry during the past four years mock at his claims.
Sources told Early Times that Mir had engaged hundreds of casual labourers and most of them from his Tangmarg constituency in the last four years. "Mir propagates one thing and does another. He is silently promoting nepotism and favouritism in the departments under his ministry," they claimed.
"While Mir has time and again been saying that his vision for J&K is self-reliance and casual labour culture was against the interests of youth, on ground he is no different from rest of the ministers. He sells dreams of government jobs to youth most of whom are his voters," they added.
Sources said Mir manages to do most of illegal things through his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Mohammad Yosuf Lone who had retired from the active service long back but is being given extensions since last several years. "If government has banned the re-employment of officers, how come Lone has been given several extensions? There is a need for a thorough probe as what has prompted the Agriculture Minister to keep Lone as his OSD despite his retirement," they added.
It isn't only Lone who has been given extension after his retirement due to the influence of Mir, but Pushkar Nath Koul, Private Secretary to Agriculture Minister is also on extension. Last year Mir had refused to penalize 23 officers of Agriculture Production Department (APD) who were facing serious cases of corruption and fraud. He had reportedly kept the case files of these corrupt officers pending and had not even bothered to seek even a preliminary report from the State Vigilance Organization (SVO). "Mir is taking full advantage of rift between coalition partners National Conference and Congress as he is the only independent member in the Omar Abdullah led government to hold cabinet portfolio. Due to Mir's close proximity with New Delhi, Omar too fears to take any action against him" sources claimed.
