Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 11: Following an incident of stone pelting by some miscreants at a religious place situated in old city that threatened to vitiate communal atmosphere, district administration imposed curfew in the entire Rajouri city at late Saturday night.
Immediately after the incident some youth from majority community gathered near city chowk and started pelting stone on Police. They also damaged some sign boards in city chowk area to register their resentment.
Apprehending communal clashes, senior citizens from both the communities also gathered and pacified the agitating youth of their respective communities.
After getting the information, Mubasir Latifi, district SP also reached the spot and pacified the protesters from both sides.
In the meantime, FC Bhagat, DDC also contacted the army authorities and demanded their help to control the situation.
At about 10pm district administration imposed curfew in the entire town and army troops staged flag march and blocked all the entry points to old city.
Police and CRPF were asked to take control inside the city. On Sunday at about 11am people at Sunderbani broke the police cordon followed by stone pelting by the protesters on SDM and ASP. Later army was called to control the situation. Curfew was imposed and people were asked to clear the Jammu-Poonch highway.
At about 3.30pm people again gathered in the town and after defying the curfew restrictions sat on dharna and again blocked the highway.
In ward number-4 after getting information that some people have opened the shops a SOG team led by DSP operations rushed to area. Before police team imposed curfew restrictions, people started pelting stones on the police party. Police team fired few tear gas shells to disperse the mob however, there were no reports of any injuries.
"Except few incidents of stone pelting, one at Rajouri and another at Sunderbani, the situation remained peaceful and well under control. The situation is tense and it is premature to give relaxation in the curfew today. On Monday a high level meeting with police and army authorities will be held to decide for any relaxation after assessing situation from other parts of the district" said FC Bhaghat, DDC.
