| Omar Govt, has died a political death: Mehbooba | | Makes no reference to Kitchloo's inaction | | Takes a dig at Omar's tweet 'hypocrisy' with Sushma
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Aug 11: In an unprecedented development state government put opposition leader and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti under house arrest and did not allow her to proceed towards Kishtwar where three persons have died in communal clashes since August 9. Since early morning the official residence of Muftis located in the Gupkar area was locked from outside and nobody from inside was allowed to come out. Police vehicles consisting of the overall security set up of PDP President were parked at District Police Lines, Srinagar and not allowed to move towards the residence of Muftis. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Shah informed Mehbooba about the government's decision about denial of her visit to Kishtwar. Later addressing a press conference, Mehbooba Mufti said that state government created a record of sorts by extending the realm of house arrest to the mainstream leaders by putting her under house arrest. She said the state government has extended the house arrest formula to the elected representatives also after having meted out the same treatment to others for the last five years. She said that purpose of her visit to Kishtwar was to talk to the affected people and bring confidence among them. "Unfortunately the state government did not allow us to visit Kishtwar and meet the affected people there. The state government has made a habit of putting restrictions on people as and when something awry takes place. If first years of the present government were marked by strife in Kashmir, the government has managed to engulf Jammu into communal fire towards its finale," said Mehbooba. The PDP President said that the mountainous region continues to be on the boil after Eid violence which has been attributed to failure of the administration to act in time. She said that in the Jammu province things have been taken a turn for the worse since Saturday adding that reports of violence between the two communities have been received. "The administration has completely failed with rumours of casualties and destruction of properties creating panic. In Rajouri there was an attack on a place of worship before clamping of curfew. In some areas of the district passengers were beaten up after dragging them out of vehicles. Similar attacks on passengers were reported from Reasi where curfew has also been imposed," said Mehbooba. The PDP President said that state government had died a political death and is surviving only on lifelines and has bunkered itself in security protection for itself while leaving common people at the mercy of hoodlums, rioters and looters. She said that the state government has prevented political parties and public representatives who are stakeholders in peace and communal amity from performing their role. "Chief Minister as usual is accusing everybody except himself for the mess he has created in the state. On the one hand he accuses BJP of having a hand in the flare up and on the other he tweets and discusses the situation with its national leader and advising her to get in touch with army commander and DGP. He reports to parliament through the BJP leader and prevents local opposition leader away from any discussion by putting her under house arrest," said Mehbooba. |
